Ruta Marítima Jacobea - The Way of St. James by Sea
A beautifully different approach to the tomb of the Apostle.
Four days from Sanxenxo to Santiago de Compostela
Follow the route of the remains of the Apostle St. James. Two days of sailing along the Galician coast and up the bay of Arosa, an hours ride up the Ulla river in a motorboat and walking the last 25km to Santiago de Compostela.
Day 1 - Sanxenxo to Rianxo
10.00 we leave Sanxenxo, on the SailWay sailboat, heading for the Isla de Arousa and then on to Rianxo. We will have a pick nick lunch with some local specialties and some Alberiño Wine at the Isla de Arousa. After lunch the trip continues to Rianxo were we will spend the night. We will dock up in the marina of the Rianxo village. Lodging on land available if preferred.
Day 2 - Rianxo to Vilagarcia de Arousa
In the morning after breakfast we set sail for Pobra do Caramiñal, were we will have lunch at a traditional Galicia restaurant. After lunch we sail to Vilagarcia de Arousa where we will doc at the marina and spend the night on board. Lodging on land available if preferred.
Day 3 - Vilagarcia de Arousa to Carballeira
We are getting closer to Santiago, and today we will leave the sail boat behind. After breakfast we will travel the last bit up the river to Pontecesures, in a smaller boat. We will leave the boat behind and start our walk to Santiago in Pontecesures. We will have lunch in Padron at a traditional Galician restaurant. We are now walking on the Camino Portugues, and have 11 km to walk until we arrive to the Rural House at Carballeira where we will spend the night.
Day 4- Carballeira to Santiago de Compostela
After breakfast we will start walking the last 12km into Santiago de Compostela. We will arrive mid day, in time to attend the pilgrims mass in the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. After pilgrims mass the trip ends.
The sailboat: The sailboat is the actual boat you can see on the pictures here (we did this route last summer). The boat has a small kitchen and full bathroom with a shower. 6 persons can comfortably sleep on the boat. Kitchen can be used to cook any meal that is not included in the trip (food can be bought at supermarkets along the way).
What is included:
Sailboat, captain, and all the harbor fees. 2 nights on the boat and one night in the rural house. Pick nick first day.
What is not included:
Meals along the way (except pick nick first day), but access to kitchen on the boat and good and reasonably prices restaurants algong the way.
